What are some ways to get rid of fordyce spots without a doctor visit? Creams, oils ect.

    • ANSWER:
you won't be able to get rid of them. they are very common and completely harmless. leave them alone

  2. QUESTION:
How can I remove fordyce spots on my penis?
I'm 14, and I have several fordyce spots (little tiny bumps on a penis found in 80% of males), and I find them ugly. I'm not sexually active yet, but when I do become active I don't think my partner would like them. Is there a kind of cream to remove them?

    • ANSWER:
I was going to say no, but apparently there are some options.

      Ask your doctor.

  3. QUESTION:
Is There Any Way To Get Rid Of Fordyce Spots?
I have fordyce spots on my penis and they've been there for over a year now, and I've basically had it with them. Ive gone to the doctor and they said to just wait it out. He said there are ways to treat it but he refused to tell me until I waited another year. So is there any ways/products/methods to get rid of these? I am a 3 sport athlete and do sports most of the summer. Is this the reason I have them? I am also 15 years old.

    • ANSWER:
Doctors don't recommend treatment for Fordyce's spots because the risk of complications outweigh the perceived advantages of not having the spots.

Methods of removal include cream medications, chemical peels, laser therapy, cryotherapy and surgical intervention to include electrosurgery.

Anyway, follow the link below ~

  4. QUESTION:
Over the counter medicine to treat Fordyce Spots?
IS there an over the counter medicine that can treat fordyce spots on the underside of my penis?

    • ANSWER:
If you are sure they are Fordyce Spots, there is no OTC medicine or other product to treat them.

      Treatments for these spots include:
      a) carbon dioxide laser treatment - removes the top-most layers of the skin.
      b) electrodesiccation - uses an electric current to dry and destroy tissue.
      c) laser vaporization - vaporizes the solid cell components and by process
turns them into steam/smoke, allowing them to evaporate.
      d) liquid nitrogen freezing - freezes the cells, destroying them.
      e) diathermy - uses heat to destroy cells.
      f) chemical peels - a temporary fix so the spots will return.
      g) tretinoin cream - a prescription cream that peels off the top layers of skin.
Side effects of this medicine would be very painful to the penis, causing
irritation, peeling, burning, stinging, erythema. NOT advised!

**A side effect of some of the treatments is permanent scars. Also, some of the treatments can only diminish the appearance of the spots instead of forcing them to completely disappear.

**Doctors advise AGAINST USE OF ANY of these treatments for Fordyce Spots because they are only a cosmetic/appearance concern. They are not bacterial, viral, sexually transmitted, or harmful. A person is born with the condition and it only becomes prevalent sometime after puberty.

You may be surprised to know that medical studies show up to 85% to 90% of men have this condition. They are a common, natural occurrence and are harmless.

I hope this has helped. Good luck on any decision you make.

  5. QUESTION:
If I get circumsized will it take away my Fordyce Spots?
I don't want to get circumsized anymore, but if it'll take away my Fordyce Spots then I will...I guess you can say I'm self-conscious about having them, which makes me nervous to do anything sexual.

    • ANSWER:
Treatment recommendations for the appearance of the yellow papules
There is no treatment needed, but you can apply Tretinoin gel or cream daily to the affected areas. It will reverse the effects over time and prevent it from getting worse. Tretinoin is works best when it is used in combination with alpha hydroxyacid agents. It is normally used to treat acne.
If the condition persists you can use Accutane. It will reappear when you stop the treatment unless you keep on using Tretinoin gel or cream afterwards. Accutane has several side-effects such as chapped lips, joint and muscle pains, temporary hair thinning, dry skin, itching, intestinal problems, nosebleed, irritation of the eyes, rash, urinary problems, poor night vision, depression, and headaches. Pregnant woman should avoid it. It may also cause damage to the liver. Consult your doctor before you use it.
TCA chemical peels are sometimes prescribed, but Fordyce’s Condition return as soon as treatment is stopped.
You can remove it with laser vaporization.
It is sometimes removed with diathermy or liquid nitrogen freezing.
Don’t pick or scratch the spots.
Since Fordyce’s Condition is harmless and appears in most adults, there is no reason to panic. You only need to get treatment for the lesions when they are ugly and cause real embarrassment. It should not interfere with lovemaking because they are painless. Young boys sometimes panic and think they have done something wrong, but a visit to the doctor sets them at ease. It seems that once we know the exact cause for these strange yellow spots, treatment will be in order. It is sometimes confused with other skin diseases. Since the cause is unknown, we cannot recommend a specific diet or vitamin supplements. It is however always good to keep oral hygiene and to eat a balanced diet that includes folic acid, Vitamins C, A, D, E, K and B complex. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps to build the immune system. Garlic helps to kill any bacteria in the bloodstream and the mouth, and folic acid is needed for normal metabolism. Proper skin care around the genital areas is important but is not related to the appearance of the spots. Treatment is only needed in severe cases, but the condition normally clears up on its own.

Will Olive Oil or Vitamin E cream help to remove Fordyce Spots on my penis - or can you give me an alternative method? Thanks

    • ANSWER:

No creams, oils or lotions are going to remove them. Just forget that they're there.

  10. QUESTION:
How do i get rid of fordyce spots, help!?
I'm 16 and i'm not sure how long I've had them but i'm really self conscious about them.. they are concentrated around the base, but a few are dotted up the shaft. I've been going to lots of parties recently and I've pulled some girls, a few have wanted to go further.. but the spots have murdered my self esteem and I've rejected the offers. I have another party on Saturday night, is there any way i could get rid of them or reduce their appearance by then? i know thats pushing it a bit but any tips will be accepted :( heeelp

    • ANSWER:
There's really no products over-the-counter that will help. Those spots are stubborn and tough to remove with OTC products.

You want to request a prescription retinoid cream (you know like Retin-A or Tazorac) because it will effectively exfoliate the skin and purge the spots out! It can take a few weeks depending on the severity of the condition.

Laser can help but that's more expensive.

      Side opinion:

Sex at this age is a no no. You're gonna regret it. Well, if you're really horny you'll just think I'm stupid. Doesn't matter. Don't do it. I'm telling ya!

  11. QUESTION:
Do Fordyce spots on penis go away after time?
Im 14 and ive done a little research and im wondering ib fordyce spots will go away after time?

    • ANSWER:
Not to worry Dean... About 80% of guys who get them, start to get them in their early teens and by the time they are in their 20's they start to fade on their own. There unfortunately is no medical cure (cream/pill/ect) that will make them go away any faster. there are laser treatments, but they are very expensive and quite painful. They (the laser treatment) can also leave scarring which would be just as bad as the fordyce spots themselves. There are a few home remedies that work for some guys, but they don't work for everyone.

Hope this helps you out a bit man. Feel free to ask any questions you may have...
      Good Luck!!

  12. QUESTION:
Who can help me with my Phimosis and Fordyces Spot's?
Yeah I'm 15 and i have Phimosis and Fordyces Spots. I don't know what to do. It has lead to depression and paranoia. I think i need to do something but I have no clue. All i know is what I got from the internet. I also have 2 inch penis when flaccid and like 4 inches when erect (or as far as i can go). I feel like the phimosis is impeding the growth of it. I would really appreciate the help.

    • ANSWER:
Phimosis doesn't impede growth so don't worry about that. At age 15, you have a lot of time for it to grow. 4 inches isn't all that small anyway.

Phimosis is also common in teenagers and can usually be easily treated at home. Stretching exercises work very well, you just have to try and pull the foreskin back every day as much as you can without forcing it, in the bath or shower. Also try to slide it back while masturbating. If you keep trying to stretch it back, after a while it should loosen up. If you google "tight foreskin stretching exercises" or similar phrases, you will probably find some more detailed instructions.

If you notice no difference in a few weeks, then you might benefit from seeing a doctor. They can provide you with betamethasone cream which fixes 90% of tight foreskin cases, you just apply to the area and stretch. There are also some minor surgical procedures, but I doutbt you need those.

Fordyce spots are pretty common and not usually noticeable. I wouldn't worry about them if I were you.

  15. QUESTION:
how common are fordyce spots located in genital areas in males?
i have got them and it's a real concern to me what will my gf think and is there any treatment.

    • ANSWER:
As far as telling your girlfriend, just arm yourself with some literature to show them, tell them you have been officially diagnosed (right?) and you don't want her to think you have any kind of STD. (Besides, sexually responsible folks get STD and Herpes tests BEFORE they become intimate.) Ask for a copy of your results--and show her! Seals the deal!

Also, there are some folks who had these SAME spots on their lips--and they found a cure through a cheap over the counter product...and you won't believe what it was! Blistex Lip Medex! I'm enclosing a link. It shouldn't hurt to put on the "privates" and you might want to try a small test area and see if it works for you. Plain old vinegar is another one they used on Fordyce.

Wikepedia had some ideas that might help, too. Have you discussed any of these with your doctor?
"Although treatment is not necessary, those with the condition can choose to apply tretinoin gel or cream to the affected areas each day. This can reverse the effects of the condition over time and prevent it from getting any worse. To get the best results from Tretinoin one should use it along with alpha hydroxy acid agents which are normally used to treat acne. Jojoba oil, Tocopherol and Argania extract have also been linked to the successful treatment of Fordyce's spots[citation needed]."

      Hope these tips help.

  16. QUESTION:

I am not sexually active or anything but they look gross and I really want to get rid of them.
Theyy are near my clit too!

    • ANSWER:
Tretinoin gel or cream may be an effective treatment if you apply it once daily to the affected area. You can use it along with alpha hydroxy acid agents, which exfoliate your skin.
Other substances that have shown treatment success with Fordyce's are jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, and Argania extract.

      Good luck!

  17. QUESTION:
Small white spots on the inner lips of the vagina?
I'm 15 and have noticed my vagina's inner lips have small white spots on them. The skin around the spots is really red and the spots dont look like they can be popped. The smell of it is really bad. I cant smell it through clothes but if i touch it and then smell my hands it smells strong and horrible. I thought it might be Fordyce's spots but someone told me it might be herpes? I'm not sexually active and I'm a virgin so any ideas? thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
Sounds like you have Eggsima (bad spelling I know lol). My girlfriend had it for awhile. Go to the doctor and get some cream for it and you should be good to go.

  18. QUESTION:
Is it bad to scratch the bumps on my scrotum?
Just curious. I dont even know what the bumps are at the base of my shaft. Idk if their fordyce spots, PPP, or if these will even go away! HELP? Will using hydrocortizone(spelling) work?
P.S. Im a virgin, so it not the herps

    • ANSWER:
No bro dont scratch them they can get infected that way
They are likely simple skin erruptions caused by sweat heat and bacteria
when you shower be certain you are washing that area well gently scrub it
and be certain that you are drying well there afterwards ..left over moisture will cause bacteria to grow and that is a good place for it grow .
Actually Hydro cortisone is a good choice i suggest you rub it on twice a day if it does not get rid of the bumps and it likely will but if it does not it will help prevent rashes ..actually Brian Hydro cortisone is the best cream u can use in that area period for any bumps rashes or any irritation in fact the only thing that it likely will not clear up is jock itch which you do not have .

if you have any more questions feel free to email me

  21. QUESTION:
What are the effects of Fordyce Spots?
I know that they cause multiple small bumps on the shaft but do they also cause red blisters that scab? What are ALL the effects?

    • ANSWER:
Fordyce's spots[1] are small, painless, raised, pale, red or white spots or bumps 1 to 3 mm in diameter that may appear on the shaft of the penis or on the labia, as well as the inner surface (retromolar mucosa) and vermilion border of the lips of the face. They are common in men and women of all ages. They are named after an American dermatologist, John Addison Fordyce.[2] On the head of the penis, they are called Tyson's glands,[3] not to be confused with Hirsuties papillaris genitalis.[4]

The spots are a form of ectopic sebaceous gland: normally, sebaceous glands are only found in association with a hair follicle. They are not known to be associated with any disease or illness and are of cosmetic concern only. They aren't infectious and are a natural occurrence on the body. Men sometimes consult with a dermatologist because they are worried they may have a sexually transmitted disease (especially genital warts) or some form of cancer, but this is not the case.[5] They may equally be worried about the appearance of their penis and what their sexual partner might think of it.[6]
Although treatment is not necessary, those with the condition can choose to apply tretinoin gel or cream to the affected areas each day. This can reverse the effects of the condition over time and prevent it from getting any worse. To get the best results from Tretinoin one should use it along with alpha hydroxy acid agents which are normally used to treat acne. Jojoba oil, Tocopherol and Argania extract have also been linked to the successful treatment of Fordyce's spots[citation needed].

Vaporising laser treatments such as CO2 laser[7] or electro desiccation have been used with some success in diminishing the appearance of this condition if they are of cosmetic concern. However, most doctors consider this a normal physiological phenomenon and advise against treatment. Laser treatment can often leave significant scarring.[8]

Sometimes a doctor will prescribe TCA chemical peels, although as soon as treatment is stopped Fordyce’s Condition will return[citation needed]. Diathermy or liquid nitrogen freezing can also sometimes be used to remove the condition[citation needed].

Success varies per patient, but some have found relief through Pulse Dye Lasers,[9] a laser normally used to treat sebaceous gland hyperplasia,[10] which is similar to Fordyce spots. Treatment through Pulse Dye Lasers is usually expensive and doesn't scar.[10]

  26. QUESTION:
Is there any way short of surgery to cure genital warts?
I have many small bumps on my privates (I am a man) which weren't there before my last girlfriend. I have not had sex in a year, and they appeared several months ago. What should I do?

    • ANSWER:
are you sure they are genital warts? They could be fordyce spots. A lot of ppl confuse the two. If you are concerned, it needs to be determined by the doc. You could get a solution applied to them at the docs office. Or be perscribed aldara. It is a cream that is applied to the bumps and slowly disapears in a couple of weeks. But if that doesnt work...surgery is next. None will happen unless your diagnosed. Go get checked.

  27. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:

  28. QUESTION:
For the past month, I've had white spots around my lip. What is it?
It's sort of like the skin disorder, Vitiligo, but its tiny-the size of a quarter (quite embarrassing because people i talk to look at that). I'm just scared it might spread around my face and neck. Is there any over the counter cream I can use??

    • ANSWER:
it's called the Fordyce's condition. i have them too and they are very unsightly i agree! the good thing is... it is normal almost 90% of men have them too but to some extent they are less visible and just stay underneath the skin. it's due to the over activity of the sebaceous gland.... the gland that controls and produces natural oil. they can usually be found on the upper lips, border of mouth inside of the cheek, face (sometimes), and genital area. dermatologists don't find anything harmful with fordyce's condition and they find it very normal occurence in the body so they don't recommend any treatment except for cosmetic purposes. in my case... i just started with a little here and there... but i am not sure if it aready spreaded. my dermatologist recommend laser treatments to improve the appearance but i haven't tried it yet. i've also read that tretinoin cream can reverse the action of the condition and prevent it from getting worse. however, you must always seek first the advice of your dermatologist when it comes to matters like this. don't apply anything just yet. ask your doctor first. believe me... you are not the only one. hope i helped you.

  29. QUESTION:
uncircumcised, phismosis and white spots on top of foreskin?
basically im 18, i have phismosis/phimosis (dont know which spelling) and im uncircumcised. i cant tell whether my frenulum is tight or just small and there are small white spots on top of the foreskin. not on the head, just on the top part (tip) of the foreskin where it ends. any suggestions or ideas?
What is a dorsal cut? Is it different from getting circumcised?

    • ANSWER:
      It's phimosis.

If your foreskin is tight, then gently stretching it with steroid cream will loosen it up. Circumcision is, in almost all cases of tight foreskin, not necessary. Google search "tight foreskin stretching exercises" for more information.

If your foreskin is actually loose, but your frenulum is too short and it's stopping you from properly retracting your foreskin...then the frenulum can also be gently stretched. Or you could get a frenuloplasty, which snips the frenulum so that you can pull back your foreskin.

The small white spots are probably pearly penile papules or fordyce spots. They're not there because you're not circumcised....circumcised men can get them too (on the glans). They're harmless, so don't worry.

  30. QUESTION:
Pimples on the skin of my penis is this serious?
I am 14 and have had pimples on the skin of my penis since I was a little kid. I have never had sex before so i dont think its an std unless i was born with it. They dont hurt or anything, but are always there is this normal and if it is is it easily treatable? Have any of you had this? Help im freaking out!!

    • ANSWER:
Theyre normal, most men have them, Theyre called Fordyce Spots and you can get cream for them, but alot of people dont bother, because they dont do any harm to either them, or their partner, it would be worth going to the doctors though, just to make sure it is them. Embarassing, i know, but its worth getting checked out.

  31. QUESTION:
does tretinoin cream help get rid of fordyce spots on the penis?
im 19 and ive had them for 6 years now and i just wanna try and get rid of them, and i heard this cream helps, but is it also safe to put on your penis
and do you need a prescription to buy it and if not where can i buy it

    • ANSWER:
These spots are *not* acne, so using an acne treatment is not going to treat them, is it?

With what part of "normal, supposed to be there" do you have difficulty?

Tretinoin causes inflammation, and your penile skin is probably a lot more sensitive than most other places. I don't think it is going to kill you, but it might just feel like it. Nevertheless if you *really* are "into" knocking your body about for no good reason, go ahead and post your results here.

  32. QUESTION:
Has anyone managed to get rid of (or reduce) fordyce spots?
It says how you can help reduce them on the net but doesn't actually have any replies from people saying if it works or not. Thanks :)
@Philin, yes I do think they are, as I'm pretty sure hair follicles wouldn't be present on the innest part of the labia minor.
    Thanks

Ooce - How to Get Rid of Fordyce Spots
Fordyce's spots and “sebaceous prominence,” are small, painless, pale bumps or spots 1 to 3 millimeters in diameter that may appear on the labia. They are harmless, but are a great concern for cosmetic reasons. There is currently no standard treatment for Fordyce's spots, and doctors don't recommend treatment. It is possible however, to reduce the prominence of these spots, or even get rid of them completely.
When people first notice Fordyce's spots, they usually think that they're infected with a sexually transmitted disease or STD. On the contrary , these spots are not associated with any illness or disease, and are a natural occurrence on the body. In fact, they are estimated to be present in 70% to 80% of the population, which means they are very common. The exact cause of Fordyce's spots is unknown, although experts think that there is a genetic link. The condition isn't caused by viruses or bacteria, and also not contagious. The spots are large sebaceous glands. Usually, these spots are present at birth, but they don't become prominent until puberty.
Doctors don't recommend treatment for Fordyce's spots because the risk of complications outweigh the perceived advantages of not having the spots. The following treatments can reduce or completely get rid of your spots:
Tretinoin: Apply tretinoin cream or gel daily to the affected areas. This will reduce the prominence of the spots over time and prevent them from getting worse. Tretinoin cream works best when used in combination with alpha hydroxyacid agents. Tretinoin is a substance that's normally used to treat acne and keratosis pilaris or “chicken skin.”
Isotretinoin: The spots will likely reappear when you stop treatment, so keep on applying the medication. If the spots persist, try using Isotretinoin though, has a lot of side-effects, including: headache, urinary problems, rash, eye irritation, nosebleed, intestinal problems, dry skin, muscle and joint pains, chapped lips, temporary hair thinning, poor night vision, and depression. Do not take this drug if you're pregnant because it may affect your unborn child, and may cause damage to your liver. Talk to your doctor before using this medication.
Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) chemical peels: TCA peels are sometimes prescribed to reduce Fordyce's spots, but symptoms usually recur as soon as you stop treatment. TCA can peel deeper than other chemical peels that only cause mild skin flaking. It usually takes about a week for the skin to completely peel, and your doctor may recommend using a moisturizer during this time to hasten the peeling process. Also, make sure to use sun protection if you're using TCA on other parts of your body aside from the genitals, because skin becomes more sensitive during the peeling process.
Laser vaporization: The prominence of the spots can be reduced through vaporising laser treatments, such as CO2 laser or electro desiccation. Laser treatments though, may have side-effects such as burning or scarring, so talk to your doctor if this treatment is best for you.

Cryosurgery or cryotherapy: Cryosurgery uses extreme cold temperatures to destroy the spots. It is a minimally invasive procedure that often comes with minimal pain and scarring. Risks involved in this procedure include damage to nearby healthy tissue and nerves. It's normal to experience localized pain and redness after the procedure, but these can be alleviated by analgesics such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin. Blisters may also form, although these usually scab over and peel away after several days.
Surgical diathermy or electrosurgery: Surgical diathermy involves the use of high frequency alternating current to cut or cauterize small blood vessels to stop bleeding. It causes localized tissue damage and burning, which are controlled by the frequency and power of a device called electrosurgical generator.

Wait-and-see approach: Some people say that Fordyce's spots sometimes go away on their own, so consider just observing the symptoms for a couple of months to a year. Take note if they seem to be getting less prominent or if their numbers are decreasing. If symptoms don't go away after a long time, and if they are causing you real embarrassment, then consult your doctor for medical treatment. In addition, eat a balanced diet rich in folic acid, and vitamins A, C, D, E, K, and B complex, because these are good for your skin and promote normal metabolism.

  33. QUESTION:
white bumps on my penis shaft?
I have three white pimple-looking bumps on the middle of my shaft. Theyre bigger than fordyce spots and they don't hurt or itch or anything.

What are they and do they ever go away?

    • ANSWER:
Pimple-looking bumps are often just that.

      Various things it could be.
Simple pimples can happen anywhere. Some of them don't hurt at first and form a white papule. If you're fairly sure it's just a pimple you could use acne cream, or dab it with a Q-tip of alcohol before and after sleeping. More than that might hurt.
Clogged hair growth. As we age body hairs, unseen before, become thicker. Yes, even there on the shaft. (We are mammals.) Sometimes a few catch on the way out of the skin forming a temporary bubble. Other times a dead line of hair (or two) might fail to fall clear of the pore and clog the way. Some good and soapy cleanings often help (me).
Pearly penile papules aren't bad. Papules aren't restricted to the head of the penis. If the white bump hardens without changing shape you've likely got that.
Bigger than papules? (Fordyce spots) Do you have any to compare?
If they're rough or bumpy they could be warts. See a doctor or visit the school clinic. Don't think with your ego! What's more embarrassing? Getting your penis inspected by a pro, or letting your health (and penis) get ruined?
Here are some questions you should have honest answers for: How long has it been there, and is it changing? Growing? Hardening? Spreading? Who did you last have sexual contact with?

  34. QUESTION:
can i apply anti fungal cream under the foreskin of my penis?
i have seen pimples like white marks are on the top of my penis.is this dangerous??? can i apply antifungal skin ointment under the foreskin of my penis

    • ANSWER:
HI Sanatan: Yes you can apply recognized products like anti fungal cream under the foreskin.
Perhaps it is not a yeast infection by Fordyce Spots or Pearly Penile Papulea.
Do a google search of both these terms and see if one of them describes what you are seeing.
Both conditions are harmless, and a normal part of being male.
Good luck and I hope this helped.

  35. QUESTION:
is tretinoin safe to use on the penis for cyst and Fordyce's spots?
as title says, i got a little cyst on my penis it doesnt hurt but its annoying to have it there, can i use a tretinion cream or a BHA cream to get rid of it ? it would be safe ya? thanks

    • ANSWER:
I'm not so sure about using it for the cyst, it'll probably be fine, but get checked up straight away if not. For the Fordyce spots though, go for it. Just be careful and make sure you read the instructions and side effects. (Personally, I don't think Fordyce spots are anything you need to treat. They're very common and probably not something anybody will pick up on when they're in that general area ;) )

  36. QUESTION:
Is this normal for my penis to have white dots?
so is this normal iam 16 yrs old and i have had them for about 4 yrs now. iam a virgin, and i want to know if i will have this 4ever or it will go away or i might have to buy sum cream i dunno anything about this plz help!!!

    • ANSWER:
It is quite possible that you are talking about Fordyce's spots. If they are Fordyce's spots, there is nothing to be done. There is no way to prevent them as they are thought to be sebacious glands. They are harmless, very common and most doctors refuse to treat them. Shower or wash as you always do as it has no impact at all.

The only treatment available is vaporizing laser therapy and, as I stated above, most doctors refuse to treat them. Believe it or not, Fordyce's spots are very common. Do not try to pot them or sqeeze them...it won't get rid of them and will only hurt the tissue of your penis.

Here is a photo to show you what they look like:

If this is not what they look like or you are still concerned, please see a urologist for a formal diagnosis.

  37. QUESTION:
toothpaste and acne cream for fordyce spots on penis?
would using acne cream on your fordyce spots on penis get rid off them also using toothpaste on them every night before going to bed for 3 months and washing your penis every day with soap then resume through the day with acne cream on it or perhaps a sewing needle to penatrate frew them and pic them off

    • ANSWER:
I don't think it would work. Acne cream might have a minor effect.
Definitely don't penetrate with a needle. These are oversized sebaceous glands and you might manage to remove a bit of skin and make it look like they've gone if you do this, but the gland will remain unchanged and look just the same in a flash. And you might end up with infection and all sorts of nasties.

I have sebaceous hyperplasia on my face, which is a variant, and Fordyce’s condition on my lips. The Fordyce’s causes no problems and I leave it, but the hyperplasia can be beaten into submission with tretinoin cream. I have used Isotrex. It takes ages though. 6 months and you might see a little improvement. A chemical peel wil take them off, but they will come back again.
Tretinoin cream has to be on prescription from your doctor in the UK and is far stronger than acne creams.

Do you really need to get rid of them though? Loads and loads of people have Fordyce’s and they notice it far more than anyone else. Guys especially have it on their penises. Honestly women don't even notice. And I can't believe that it will do you any good to go at your penis with nasty chemicals.
When you're young you imagine all sorts of imperfections will have a detrimental effect on your life. When you're older you realise that we all have all sorts of imperfections and they're not important. Have you seen the really ugly guy with the gorgeous girlfriend? If you are a calm, happy person with a good heart and a pleasant way with you, it will do you much more good in life than physical perfection...

  39. QUESTION:
How to get rid of Fordyce Spots?
Ever since I was 12, I have had small white bumps around the base and under of my penis shaft. I am now 18 years old, and they have not gone away, nor reduced in size or quantity. However, it looks as if it may have spread ever so slightly. my problem is now that I have a girlfriend. I am a bit concerned with having sex, especially since these spots have taken over my close-personal life.

Is there any way to get rid of them? Or perhaps, even reduce them to a minimum?

Any help is appreciated :) Thanks :

    • ANSWER:
Fordyce's spots are said to occur because of genetics, but the exact cause is still unknown. The typical observation would reveal small, painless white spots or nodules located on the shaft of the penis or on the scrotum. There is no treatment needed for Fordyce's spots. Another cause of small white bumps on the scrotum would be folliculitis or in lay terms, clogged hair follicles. Folliculitis can be contagious if it originates as an infection.

See a dermatologist if you are experiencing pain, itching, fever or any other unusual symptoms.

Clean the affected area with an antibacterial wash such as benzoyl peroxide twice daily to exfoliate dead skin cells and keep pores open.

Apply a topical antibiotic such as terbinafine, a cream used to treat jock itch, after each cleaning to get rid of any bacteria or fungus that may be present on the skin. You can find numerous brands in your local drugstore.

  40. QUESTION:
i have Fordyce spots on my penis, should i be concerned?
well i googled it and its what i have but should i be concerned or is it not a medical problem?
i am also concerned that i may compare with my friend and be embarrassed about them, should i?

    • ANSWER:
      Billy,

They're very common. We just don't notice them on other guys because we don't stare at their erect penises for long periods of time like we do our own.

One website says 50% of penises have them. Another said 90% of men have them (but they may include ones that are not on the penis).
At any rate, they are very common. It's definitely not a medical problem, just a cosmetic issue. If they are really thick - like over a hundred - or are unusually large, then there are creams that can reduce the appearance.

No need to be embarrassed. Chances are 50/50 or better ur friends have them too. Even if not, they're just not that unusual, and may not even be noticed by anybody else.

Every penis is unique - bumps, twists, bends, coloring, etc. Be proud of urs, nobody has one quite like it!

Fordyce's spot.... how to get rid ????

    • ANSWER:
It's you and a million others.
While there seems to be a genetic link, the cause for this condition is idiopathic. The condition is not contagious and it is not caused by any viruses. At birth the papules are present but they don’t become prevalent until a child reaches puberty.
They are not known to be associated with any disease or illness and are of cosmetic concern only. They are non-infectious and a natural occurrence on the body.
Treatment is not necessary, those with the condition can choose to apply tretinoin gel or cream to the affected areas each day. This can reverse the effects of the condition over time and prevent it from getting any worse.

I need someone who has experienced this before?
I have these pimples on my penis. I havent been checked and Im not sure if I had an outbreak or not. Are the boils on the genital area only caused by herpes??

    • ANSWER:
ok i obviously have not had this problem before since i'm Female but i've googled it for you. I think you should go and see a Doctor.

Tiny nodules beneath the skin which appear over the scrotum and the base of the shaft of the penis are normal hair follicles.

Small pearly spots around the crown of the glans affect about 10% of all men around the ages of 20-40. These 'pearly penile papules' if diagnosed, are not infectious and require no treatment.

Small red or purple spots on the penis can appear on the glans, shaft or scrotum and usually affect younger men. Known as Fordyce spots they may appear in one's or two's but they frequently occur in patches of up to 100. These spots come about as a result of dilated blood vessels. They can look a little unsightly but they are completely harmless. No easy way is known of removing this type of spot.

A small-medium sized raised spot on the scrotum, sometimes filled with pus, is most likely just a spot or a boil.

Thick red patches with a well defined edge could spell psoriasis. Psoriasis can be inherited but is rarely serious. Typically, psoriasis of the penis will be treated by a steroid cream.

Pink-brown or skin-colored lumps with a moist surface could suggest genital warts.
