White Bumps On Lips

At least 85 percent of all infants are born with small, round, smooth, yellow-white swellings on their gums or palates. Those on the gums are usually 2 to 3 millimeters in size and are called Bonn's pearls; those on the palate are twice as large and are called Epstein's pearls. When viewed under a microscope, both types of "pearls" consist of the same material that produces milia around the nose and chin ), and it isn't surprising that all three of these conditions disappear at about the same time-by one to three months of age. Those who imagine that only teeth belong on the gums may mistake Bonn's pearls for teeth, but if you feel the bumps carefully, you'll note that they aren't as hard or sharp as teeth. Epstein's pearls can be mistaken for thrush, a common fungus infection of the mouth, but the white deposit of thrush is plastered against the mouth and can be removed. Epstein's pearls cannot.

WHITE PATCHES IN MOUTH
Milk remaining in the mouth will curdle and stick to the baby's cheeks or tongue as a gray-white patch. It can be scraped off with ease, leaving behind a completely normal surface. If you're certain that the patch represents milk deposits, there's no need to do anything about it. If you want to be sure the patch is not thrush, try to scrape it off. The chalky-white plaque of thrush is firmly stuck against the mouth, and when you finally manage to get some of it off, you'll see that the surface behind it is swollen and red, and bleeds easily. Thrush is a true infection and produces an inflamed response; milk deposits are just interior decorating.

SUCKING BLISTERS
People who work with their hands get blisters on their hands, and babies who work with their lips get blisters on their lips. Not all babies get them, but those who do, develop a single blister in the center of the upper lip. The blister may peel and re-form over and over again. Sucking blisters are a very visible sign that the baby is an avid sucker (not that a nursing mother needs to be reminded). They're occasionally mistaken for the blister of herpes. Since babies with herpes have many blisters not confined to the upper lip, and aren't likely to be avid suckers, this worry should be easily retired.

PROTRUDING TONGUE
Many babies allow their mouths to open and their tongues to protrude, particularly when they're relaxed. Unless the baby's mouth is unusually small, or her tongue unusually big, a protruding tongue shouldn't cause concern. If you need to be certain, simply push the baby's tongue into her mouth and hold her lips closed. If the tongue fits, let the baby wear it. The tongue of a baby with Down's syndrome sticks out of her mouth, but it can easily be distinguished from the tongue of a normal infant by its rhythmical in-and-out protrusion and retraction. Furthermore, the tongue usually doesn't fit very well in the baby's mouth. Most of the tongue-related worries I hear are really Down's syndrome worries. Your pediatrician will have no difficulty recognizing Down's syndrome and will be able to dispel such concerns quickly

There is a rare disease called "Vagina Dentata" which causes so called "Teeth" to form in the lips of your vagina. Nothing serious, just small calcium build ups. I heard if you stress you get it but i dont alot of people stress more then me and have never got it in their lives. Please Answer ! Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Lots of triggers. For some, diet drinks (with caffeine), foods with artificial sweeteners, like aspertame, will bring them out within hours. If you drink diet drinks a lot--well, it's a problem. And don't forget that many toothpastes, mouthwashes, and gum have ingredients that will aggravate cold sores.

Some lip plumpers/glosses may have ingredients (like cinnamon) that causes the reaction. Chocolate, nuts, and rice are other foods some associate with outbreaks.

Take a look at all of it, food, drinks, cosmetics. The culprit may be among them.

      Hope this helps.

Hi I have a small white bump on the left side of my lip. I'm thirteen years old and I know it's not from a disease. I think it's from my mustache growing but I don't know. I also have really small nonvisible bumps on my mustache hairs and want to know how to clear them up. I just don't want to walk around school looking like I have hemmroids or something. • ANSWER:
It is called an oral ulcer, I get them all the time. They generally form when you have a cut in the inside of your mouth (on your tongue, lips, cheek, ect) like a scab does, only it is much more painful.

I have found two successful ways to get rid of them, both of which are painful though. =/
      1. Salt Water. Swish salt water around in your mouth around the ulcer, it will speed up the healing process.
      2. Pineapple Juice: Do the same thing you did with salt water, let it wash over your ulcer.

It should clear up in about a week on it's own. Four to five days if you do the above.

It is totally normal, the bump is from the dead hair being pushed out by your body (similar to an ingrown hair) exfoliation helps this process go by faster, there is also a product you can by from salon and spas called "tendskin" that sooths and helps exfoliate OR you can just go to the drugstore and get cream used for bikini line irratation (it is the same stuff).

How do i know if i've gotten something from giving oral sex to a male? What should i do?
I gave oral sex to a male like two weekends ago. And now i have a little white bump on the inside of my bottom lip. Its not painful or anything but how do i know if its anything bad or not. It was my first time doing it. And also i didn't do it with a condom. So what should i do?

    • ANSWER:
Little white bump sounds like an ulcer or canker sore. It will go away by itself in about a week usually. I wouldn't worry too much. I doubt it's herpes if that's what you're worried about. If you're really concerned go get it checked out, the doctor should be able to tell you straight away just by looking at it.

I think my lip is infected i have a lip ring?
I have white bump on my lip under my lip ring i tryed poping it with a pin and with my fingers and nothing came out so what should i do about it.

    • ANSWER:
Definitely common sense rules here. After you take the lip ring out, before you go to bed each night, dip a Q-tip in hydrogen peroxide and roll it over the infected area.
If the red area enlarges, go to the doctor. Be very careful not to put too much hydogen peroxide.
