Vicks On Feet

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How does Vicks work when you put it on your feet with socks?
It is a cure for stuffy noses my neighbor told me about but I dont see how putting Vicks on your feet helps your nose.

    • ANSWER:
My Mom's in the middle of a 3-month plan to make her toenails pretty again. They're thick and yellow now. But supposedly, if you put Vicks on them and sleep with socks, in three months your nails won't be thick and yellow anymore. We'll just have to see..... :)

  2. QUESTION:
What is a good home remedy for a sick coughing child?
My grandmother told me to put VICKS on her feet and cover them with socks overnight but i don';t think it will do anything!!!

    • ANSWER:
A cough is caused by a virus; there are no cures for it.

  3. QUESTION:
How to cure a ten year old child's blocked nose?
We have tried a Vick's inhaler, Vick's on feet, Vick's on a tissue sniffing it and Vick's in a bucket. We went to the doctors and they said it was a common cold. But that's impossible now because he has had it for more than 3 months! Please someone help!
Its is getting really annoying so I would like an answer. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I have no idea what a blocked nose is. ?? Do you mean congested? Stuffed up?

By the way do you own stock in Vick's or something? If it didn't work the first time, why keep at it? It's like child torture by Vicks...j/k LOL!

Your post is under allergies. take him to an allergist. And yes, there are colds which last that long.

If it's a cold beta glucan 1, 3 and AHCC work the fastest to get rid of it and alleviate all symptoms.

If it's an allergie bromelain/quercetin/C combo (such as "Activated Quercetin by Source Naturals") works great. I have no idea what the dosages would be for kids though.

      Hope this helps!

  4. QUESTION:
How do you keep your feet healthy?
I know this is gross, but... I always have hard calloused feet. No corns or infections, just a lot of hard and rough skin. I have tried everything from soaking and washing to using cream, emory boards/pumice and corn parers (I use it on the hard callouses). Nothing really helps, although the corn parers and cream are better than the rest. I also wear comfortable sneakers and cotton socks. I do a lot of walking and other exercise. What can I do? Thanks for any suggestions.

    • ANSWER:
I'm a nail technician, I have been for 7 years, I find that using vicks vapo rub, rubbing it all over your feet, and always using a GOOD foot file, not a cheapy one, OPI makes a great foot file, daily will help too. But really, those callouses and hard spots are on your feet for a reason, they are protecting you by the way you stand, or how you walk, and the amount you are on your feet. Lather up with Vapor Rub (even cheap kind), put on some good coton socks, and go to sleep! Vicks vapor rub also helps in the healing of toe fungus, athletes foot, etc. Good Luck! E-mail me with more questions if you'd like.

  5. QUESTION:
How do you remove Calluses from your feet?
I have got two calluses on each of my feet one on the side of my toe and the side of the ball of my foot. I'm pretty sure I have them from playing soccer but my boots are expensive ones so changing them is not an option also they fit fine. They really hurt to run on and I have soccer 5 times a week.

    10 points for best answer!

    • ANSWER:
Tip #1: Immerse the feet in lukewarm water containing Epsom salt.

Prior to going to bed, you can try immersing your affected foot in lukewarm water that has Epsom salt. You can immerse your feet for about 20 minutes to soften the callus.

Tip #2: Use a callus file and pumice stone.

Utilize a callus file or pumice stone to eliminate the surface coating of the callus. The outer layer of the callus will be easy to remove because it had already softened during the immersion process. Since the callus had already softened, you can get rid of as much callus as possible.

Tip #3: Use a mixture of Whitfield’s ointment and hydrocortisone cream.

Blend hydrocortisone cream and Whitfield’s ointment and put the solution on the calloused region. These items can be seen most frequently in your local drug store without prescription. Wear a sock on top of the plastic. Allow both the plastic and sock to remain on your foot overnight.

Upon waking up the following morning, take away the plastic and the sock then you can start rubbing off the exterior surface of the callus by using callus file or pumice stone. After removing the surface of the callus, try to rub on an excellent foot lotion to the affected area so that the skin will not dry or get chapped.

Tip #4: Use table sugar or salt.

You can use table sugar or salt as a scrub to remove the outer layer of callus. Sugar or salt for scrub will get rid of the old dead skin that had accumulated over the years on your feet. You can eliminate as much dead skin on your feet with sugar or salt if it is wet.

      Tip #5: Use flexitol foot-balm.

You can also use this product to gradually moisten the callus and to preserve the soft skin on your feet. You can apply flexitol foot-balm on the callus after taking a bath and wear socks to protect you from slipping.

Tip #6: Vicks can remedy callused feet as well.

This is another home remedy that you can try to remove callus on your feet. Aside from the fact that Vicks can help remedy toenail fungal infections, it can also refresh your feet as well as make calluses softer.

      Tip # 7: Salicylic Acid

salicylic acid, the ingredient used in over-the-counter wart-removal products.

Salicylic acid is a keratolytic, which means it dissolves the protein (keratin) that makes up most of both your corn and the thick layer of dead skin which often tops it. Used as indicated on the package directions, these products are gentle and safe for most people. Salicylic-acid treatments are available in different forms including

      applicators,

      drops,

      pads, and

      plasters.

All of these treatments will turn the top of the skin white and allow you to trim or peel away dead tissue, making the corn protrude and hurt less.

It generally is recommended that salicylic acid not be used by people with diabetes or when there is frail skin or poor circulation (because of concern about how normally the skin can heal). In these situations, application of salicylic acid can potentially lead to ulcer formation on the skin. Your health-care practitioner can help you determine whether salicylic acid-based products are safe for use on your skin.

You should not attempt to cut or shave away corns and calluses at home. This can lead to potentially dangerous infection of the surrounding tissues. This should be performed by a podiatrist or other health-care practitioner.

Your health-care practitioner may also prescribe antibiotics for any corns or calluses that have become infected.

  8. QUESTION:
What the amount of water/listerine or vinegar to soak your feet to treat toenail fungus?
I dont want to pour too much or too little. The size of the container can fit both your foot. The length is about 5 inches. The width is 1 foot.
Should i filled the container with like 1/4 of listerine or vinegar and like 3/4 water? Just give me any estimation. Doesn't have to be in exact number.

    • ANSWER:
itz - To kill toenail fungus is a long and tough task. The fungus usually thickens the nail and then grows UNDER the nail. IF you do a Yahoo or Google computer search for - treatment of nail fungus - you will get lots of references and info, especially from the Mayo Clinic. Often, ordinary Vicks Vaporub is applied twice a day to the surface and nail edges. There is some very expensive topical clear medicine applied like nail polish. A podiatrist could plane off some of the nail thickness. Finally oral medicine, which sometimes has a bad effect on your liver, has been used. Treatment can take months and requires persistence, but you can cure it.

  9. QUESTION:
How can i stop my feet hurting walking round the parks in Florida?!?
i went to Disney and universal four a couple of weeks in 2009, and my feet were sooo sore from walking around all day every day, and this year im going for a month. do you know any shoes that would be good to stop my feet hurting? or any other ideas?! thanks! :)

    • ANSWER:
wear athletic running sneakers. they are light weight and more slim/less bulky than other sneakers. and have good arch support.
just make sure they are NOT fashion sneakers (easy to tell if they are fashion sneakers cuz they will be completely flat on the bottom)

also i saw in a magazine a few years ago to use vicks vapor rub to help mend sore feet and prevent sore feet altogether. its the methyl that helps.
let me tell you it works like a charm. i used to have such sore feet after walking around disney world parks and other area parks to the point there i would take off my shoes at night and they would be painful, swollen, and numb at the same time and then i'd wake up in the morning and could barely walk it hurt sooooooooo bad but ever since i've used the vicks vapor rub my feet feel pretty dang good! i've talked my best friend and parents into using it as well.
      its great!

"sweet kisses" is talking about me :)
i answered that question the other day.

  11. QUESTION:
What is the best way to stop the pain in my right foot?
I have on working shoes steal toe not boots. I am always on concrete and I pull and push pallets. I have been in pain for three days. I have put the vicks rub and the blue ribbon cream to resolve the pain but nothing is working I even taken exedrin but the pain went for a little while this morning and once I stepped on the carpet and the concrete I am hurting. What can I do.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi.
Well, you failed to mention if your foot pain is due to the steel toed shoes,or from working/standing on concrete,or both.

But,it's likely both the steel toed shoes, and standing on concrete.
So,the best advice I could possibly offer for you would be to wear thicker socks while wearing your steel toed shoes, and this should likely help while standing on concrete also.
They also make shoe soles for these types of steel toes shoes, and for the type of work you do,as these types of soles help prevent pain/discomfort while standing/working on hard surfaces, such as concrete.
And,if neither of these suggestions work?
Make sure you have invested in a quality work shoes,as cheaper brands are well know to cause pain/discomfort.

This is the best and only advice I could possibly offer to you.Just make sure you purchase a thick pair of work socks, and the soles that go inside your work shoes. Both these suggestions should help ease some of your pain/discomfort along with taking Excedrin.
Use caution when applying any kind of rubbing cream/medicinal cream before putting on your work shoes,as this will draw extra moisture to your feet when working/sweating.Bacteria thrives in dark moist areas, and can cause infection if the skin is broken,or old wound is opened, and bacteria gets in.So,keep your feet as dry as possible when putting on your work shoes/socks,and this should help prevent moisture, and infection.Using 'Gold Bond' medicated powder is a good idea before putting on work shoes/socks,and also help keep out moisture, and offers a cool sensation to ones feet.

      Hope this helps.
      Take care.

  12. QUESTION:
How do i get rid of phlem in my 26month old boy?
He has had this phlem build up in his chest for a while now. I have tried rubbing vicks on his feet and covering with socks, keeping him warm, having long hot showers. it doesnt seem to work. Any suggestions please? am worried

    • ANSWER:
try patting his back and front chest with a cupped hand like you would do when patting their back to put them to sleep. . you have to do it a little hard to get him to cough. normally when this kind of treatment is done in the hospital, it is ordered to help the pt cough...

you couild also use a vibrating massager, which is like the mechanical ones used in the hospital, just dont be too rough with it, try it with a blanket or towel over his clothes so its not directly on his skin...

  14. QUESTION:
Has anyone used vicks vapor rub on their toe nails to cure toe nail fungus? Or know someone who has?
I have bad fungus on my toe nails and I can't take the pills they have for it. (I am only 16 and the pills can ruin your liver) Does vicks vapor rub work or do you have any other suggestions? THANKS!

    • ANSWER:
My husband uses Listerine and it works. You need to get the antiseptic kind though...he seems to think the brown works better than the green. Not sure if there is a difference in the store brand and the name brand but I would think if the ingredients are the same it should work the same.

Pour some in a bowl or something that you can rest your foot in so the toenails can soak. Depending how bad it is, I would think you should see results in about a week but continue doing it daily until you feel it is gone. Checkout the link I posted.

  15. QUESTION:
Do anyone have a good remedy for foot odor?

  17. QUESTION:
what do u do when ur six month old has a bad cough?
My son hs a really bad cough and he is six months old. so he is too lil to take anything.and i dont know what to do to help him. my mother in law told me to rub vicks on his feet and cover with socks. what other thing i can do to help him.

    • ANSWER:
He's not too young to take anything. Infants are given meds every day for various reasons. Take him to his pediatrician. In the meantime, take his temp, try moist heat, be sure he's drinking fluids. Ask your doctor about Children's Tylenol the dosage for an infant (depends on weight). If his nose is runny or lots of congestion, use a baby nasal syringe & clear his nose. You can also use a few drops of normal saline in the nose to help loosen dry nasal plugs. Keep his head a bit elevated and if possible sleeping on side so the nose will drain. Lots of fluids.

  18. QUESTION:
How long will PETA and The NFL hold Vick's feet to the flames?
I'm no fan of Mike Vick, but dog fighting in the south have been going on for decades and making him there personal whipping boy want change that,I'm not saying all people in the south does this I personally has never been involve in it,but it is more common than you think it is a way of life to some.

    • ANSWER:
Thank you somebody finally said it. What he did was wrong but how many people do you know that has done the same thing. Being from the South a lot of people participate in dog fighting they even make dvds about it. They just made an example out of Mike Vick to let u know that hey a rich young black man cant always buy his way out of jail (im quite sure there was more than 3 people involved in a dogfighting ring but did you hear about any of them?). Personally i would rather see Vick back in the nfl for killing dogs rather than pacman who is trying to kill people. I don't think Vick is "thug" for dog fighting its common down here. If the pitbulls that they were fighting would have killed one of their precious chihuahuas what would PETA say then?...

  20. QUESTION:
My friend's dog likes to chew on hands and feet! How should my friend get him to stop?
I have a friend whose dog likes to chew on everyone's hands and feet! It's very annoying and it's constant! He'll come up, perhaps lick your hand, but then he'll try and bite it! Not very hard, just playful, but it's still annoying! We'll give him a sharp "No" and then he'll stop for a few seconds, but then start doing it again! How can my friend get him to stop?

    And no, he's not teething!
My friend's dog has MANY play toys that he can tear up till his heart's content, so he DOES have toys to chew on!

Thank you to those of you who actually gave intelligent, thought out answers! I'll have my friend try some of those suggestions!

    • ANSWER:
      1. Everytime he does that, pick up one of his toys and stuff it into his mouth gently so that he ends up chewing it instead of your hand. Praise him generously so that he knows what is appropriate to chew and what is not.

      2. Everytime he chews on your hand, give a sharp yelp as if you're in pain. Most well socialised dogs that have developed good doggy manners will get the hint that their idea of "play" is becoming intolerable. If not, you can make a low humming noise which simulates growling - but this may only work with more sensitive or submissive dogs.

      3. It also sounds like the dog is very excitable and active. Dogs like these need alot of exercise to expend their energy so they don't become hyperactive and annoying. Try taking the dog for a long walk, a jog, stairs climbing etc. A tired dog is usually a more well behaved pet too.

      4. Do not encourage the dog to become too excited if he is prone to biting/chewing out of sheer excitement. Some dogs are attention seekers and will do anything to get attention - even negative attention (the dog may even enjoy the scolding because it IS still attention). Ignore the dog or put the dog away somewhere else if he keeps displaying such unwanted play behaviour. Make him learn that you will only play with him if he plays by your rules.

      5. Don't really like to use this method but you can use negative reinforcement that is to put something that is not-so-nice-smelling on your hands like vicks's (menthol chest rubs) etc. Make sure it's not too noxious nor is it poisonous.

If this is a grown up dog you're talking about, chances are his chewing problem has been reinforced and not corrected since young. Unwanted behaviour can be rectified but patience is definitely required.

      Good luck!!

  21. QUESTION:
how does vicks vapour rub work when rubbed on chest or feet?
i find it especially weird that your meant to rub it on your feet. does it sink into the skin or something? i usually put it near my nose so i can breathe it in more.

    • ANSWER:
Never heard of it going on the feet...as it says on the tin, its a vapour rub, so its the vapour which does the trick. and its a long way to go from your feet, unless you are very very small or lay in bed in a very peculiar manner.

  22. QUESTION:
Does Viks Vapor Rub on the bottoms of feet really work?
I have heard- from several people- that rubbing Viks Vapor Rub on the bottoms of one's feet before bed (including babies) can temporarily stop coughing, at least for the night. I know what causes coughing, and I know not to give babies cough medicine- I'm not even going there. My question is, has anyone else heard of this technique, used it, and does it work?

    • ANSWER:
Yes I have heard and have done it. Yes it works or for me it does at least. I do it to myself and all my kids if we get a cough.

I don't do humidifiers anymore. My daughter several years back got really bad pneumonia, and was in the hospital for 3 days. I asked the doctor if cool mist or warm mist vaporizers were better, and he said " it all depends on who you ask" one source will tell you cool mist will make things worse, and another source will tell you a warm mist will make matters worse. So based on that wonderful insight I don't use either.

EDIT: the reason it goes on the feet is because the vapors are strong. With the vapor rub on the feet, the smell isn't as strong so it's gentler to use. You are also supposed to put socks over it.

If you worry about the strong smell you can get baby vicks.

  23. QUESTION:
What is the best way to get oxygen running through your body after smelling a horrilbe smell for 1hr?
My friend had his shoes off and his feet smelled horrible but I didn't want to be rude now I need to know the fastest way to get oxygen running through my system.

    • ANSWER:
I work on an ambulance and when we pick up a stinky patient we put Vick's Vapo Rub under our noses. That doesn't do anything for your friends feet, but it will help you breathe a little easier.

  24. QUESTION:
How do you calm a coughing tickle in your little one's throat?
They can't have cough drops, or over the counter "cough" medicine anymore. I try and coax him to drink water, but that doesn't even really work. Can I use Vicks vapor rub on his nose/throat?
This is even hard because I can't always find a solution to stop by coughing tickle, so I'm really struggling to find a method that works for my son.
We already have a humidifier going in his room... I'm sure its helping, but not stopping the cough!

    • ANSWER:
Vicks is perfectly safe for little ones. Use some on his chest/neck, and back, and then cover the soles of his feet with it, and put socks on him. It works wonders (even on adults)! Also, try Triaminic thin strips (they dissolve on the tongue) and work pretty well for my kids. The Vicks on the feet, though, works better than anything I've ever tried.

  28. QUESTION:
Can Vicks be applied to infants who are below 3 months?
Can Vicks be applied to infants who are below 3 months?

    • ANSWER:
I have heard that you can apply vicks vaporub to the soles of a baby's feet and cover with socks. If they have a cold or cough, it should "dry" it up.
This may sound strange but if you apply garlic to the soles of your feet and cover with socks, within 20 minutes you will be able to "taste" the garlic in your face. I don't know if it is a good idea for a 3 month old to have vicks applied to their chest.

  29. QUESTION:
Does rubbing Vick's on your feet help stop coughing at night?
I read that rubbing Vick's on the bottom of your feet before bed, then putting on socks will stop your heaviest of coughing in just minutes, allowing you a peaceful sleep all night long. tea tree is the best. you can apply it neat. dab it on once or twice a day with a dabber thing. or soak your feet in a solution of tea tree oil and water (maybe 10-15 drops in a smallish tub) you can add lavender too, thats good. soak for say 10 minutes twice a day. witch hazel i believe is good too.

  34. QUESTION:
Will the Feds file charges against the local officials that had been protecting Vick?
The Feds would not have gotten involved if the locals hadn't turned their backs on what was going on over there. Were they paid off in that one-horse County? I think Vick could have gotten off with a year suspension from the NFL and a suspended sentence if the locals would have moved on him. Now he is really screwed!
To this day the locals are not filing state charges against Vick even though there is plenty of evidence to do so.

    • ANSWER:
      Gypsy
I totally agree with you. The other posters are not very well informed about the situation. Then they have the nerve to insult YOU, LOL

You are right, it is all over the internet that IF the state of Virginia had done their job, Michael Vick would not have been in as much trouble as he is now.

Yes, I believe that some Virginia lawmakers had been paid off, long before the 'kennels' were discovered on Michael Vick's property. Very likely some of them had even ATTENDED some of his dog fights. That's why they didn't want to prosecute, because they didn't want THEIR own dirty laundry aired. That's why Michael Vick had the confidence, when the state was doing the investigating to make the ridiculous statement 'everybody gonna luv Michael Vick, no matter what he does'.

The Feds jumped in because Virginia prosecutors were dragging their feet with the investigation. It's all VERY obvious.

And his 'payoffs' ended up biting Michael Vick in the butt. Yep, Karma is a *****.

(Also note: its very apropos that a drug DOG brought this all down on Michael Vick's head. A dog located the drugs on Devon Boddie (Michael Vick's cousin who lived in the house) that led to the search warrant of the house in the beginning when the horrors at Vick's Surrey county property was discovered)

  37. QUESTION:
Did Vick in his contrition speech say one word to repudiate the infantile, barbaric practice of dogfighting?
Thought I saw the whole thing but what I heard said not a word about the barbarity of dogfighting....thus I do not believe he is sorry for anything other than getting caught. Until he actively repudiates dogfighting and turns in those he knows and continues to work to eradicate thru education this insane, childish barbarism that is dogfighting(one cannot in good conscience call it a sport) then he should not set foot on an NFL field.
Thank you I was not sure if they had got that into their boiler-plate contrition speech Macro but they did....Now to see what he does to follow-up...there should be more arrests and he needs to donate alot to ASPCA, Humane society anyone working with rescue dogs etc
He does have a lot of bad karma to overcome since we are using the word evil...I hope he can step up
I wish I could have watched it all but I cannot abide looking at him for all I see is him and his cronies torturing/killing animals for no reason other than to appease some infantile impulse of hate and control...kinda like bush et al

    • ANSWER:
He said that he'd found God. How original! How dare he try to use God to improve his evil image? That just shows how low he will go to save his sorry a$$. Maybe God had already found him. Maybe God sent those Officers to Vick's house in search of his drug dealing cousin, in order to stop the torture of those animals. " He works in mysterious ways".

As for his "Contrition Speech", it sounded rehearsed. Like a speech his attorney would write for him. The only thing that I think he is sorry for, is the fact that he got caught.

  38. QUESTION:
Why does the NFL have to do an investigation of their own with Vick?
Isn't that just a waste of time and money on the NFL's part? If found guilty he should be banned from the NFL for life. No questions asked. It's time for the NFL and a lot of other pro sports to put their foot down.

    • ANSWER:
Banned for life? I think Vick deserves to go to jail for what he's done, but once he serves his time, he should be eligible to return to the NFL, that is if anyone will want him.

Once he's paid his debt to society, he should have the right to earn a living just like anyone else. He'll just be under one BIG microscope!

  39. QUESTION:

  40. QUESTION:
Does Vicks Vapor Rub really work for stubborn nail fungus?
I have this patch of white nail fungus on my toe and it has been there for over a year. I heard that vicks vapor rub will get rid of it. I just wanted to make sure before I actually tried it.

    • ANSWER:

  41. QUESTION:
Can Vick become a good quarterback again?
If you believe in redemption and second chances ? Vick probably has a lot of rust but also should be completely healed up. Being out of the game will give him a chance to learn new things easier. Can he be better then half the starters out there right now. Remember is is only 28 and could have another 10 years of football ahead of him.

    • ANSWER:
I don't see why not. Vick was great in terms of using his legs to win games. He did something most QB's couldn't do which was scramble and gain huge chunks of yardage while doing it. I think Vick has the opportunity to be great again. I mean sure he wasn't the best when it came to the passing game, but one cannot deny that he had talent. Now of course he will have to knock off the rust but I think he has the opportunity the be great again. All he has to do is get back into the rhythm, find an offense that fits his style, and begin playing again. The only thing that might hinder his performance could be the mental abuse by fans. What I mean is, if he comes back to the NFL fans in pretty much all stadiums would lament their frustration against him. If that happens it could cause him to make more mistakes in the game. With the fans against him he may just collapse. But other than that I think he can get back on the right foot as a player. He just has to practice hard, continue to have a great workout routine and block out the distractions.

  42. QUESTION:
Does putting Vicks Vaporub on the soles of your feet really help congestion?
I've had a cold for the past few days and heard that if you put Vicks Vaporub on the bottom of your feet help with chest congestion and cough. Has anyone out there tried this and does it work? Or is it just an old wives tale?

    • ANSWER:

    • ANSWER:
apparently a generous amount of vicks vapour rub on the bottom of the feet and covering with socks works wonders on a cough, probebly not good during they day if they are at walking age, but its suppose to work, id try it.

  44. QUESTION:
What do you think about the Michael Vick case and do you all think he should punished?
I'm a dog lover and I don't like what Vick did. It breaks my heart to hear that the losing dogs in the dog fights were strangled or electrocuted to death. Also any unwilling pit bull was killed and his group killed 7 at one point. So, do you think he should be put in jail, let off, or suspended by the NFL? What is your opinion and please make it an honest one.

    • ANSWER:
Thank you for posting this question.

I wish these guys that get into positions of being a kids HERO, would act like one.

Definitely, he should be fired and put in prison.

Treat me kindly , my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for although I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have be do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food so that I may stay well to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And beloved master , should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest... and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I draw, my fate was every safest in your hands.

  45. QUESTION:
My husband has toenail fungus is there an easy way to get rid of it besides going to the doctor?
He is preasently using Vicks Vapor Rub. Also how do you get toenail fungus? And is it contagious?

    • ANSWER:
Vicks may help, but you probably need an anti-fungal cream and/or powder. You can use lotrimin AF cream or any other similar anti-fungal product. You can order Zeasorb-AF powder through your drug store, if they don't carry it on the shelves. Or you can use yogurt. Eat plain yogurt about 3 times a week, and/or use it like a cream on the area. It will smell, but the acidophilus bacteria in the yogurt neutralizes yeast. It can take up to 6 months to clear. Keep doing what you are doing until the nail is normal.

This is also the same fungus that results in jock itch, athlete's foot, vaginitis (in women), ringworm and other skin rashes. It is the Candida Albicans fungus (yeast). While toenail fungus is not contagious, person to person, it can spread to other toes, if unchecked.

The underlying fungus can be transmitted by skin contact to other persons.

For basic information on yeast, check out the link at the bottom of the Welcome page of www.hufa.org.

  46. QUESTION:
Does rubbing Vick's Vapor rub on your feet really work for relieving coughs?
I have never heard of that method, the only use for Vick's I've seen is using it on your chest to clear congestion.

    • ANSWER:
Dear ASH! I am a healthcare professional and I have always recommend Vick's application on chest and nose. If we apply it nose, it smooths the breathing and you feel comfortable. In this way it can relax the lungs to some extent but cannot cure cough. Applying Vick's on feet will not work to cure cough. Hope you will be clear about the mechanism.

  47. QUESTION:
Why does my cat always attack my feet, and me but not my father and my uncle?
I have this five year old orange long haired tabby or wtvr and to me he's the cutest, but there is this one thinge he always does... always runs from me will always attack me and my feet. my uncle says its cause he wants to play i dont see signs of aggression at first but after words he startes gettin vicious... he lets me pet him but never lets be pet his back or tummy... does he just not like me?? or what any one wanna help?

    • ANSWER:
Our cat is almost 10 mos. old and he has lots of energy and play aggression. He loves to give love-bites to ankles & feet in an attempt to get us to play with him. Cats are biologically prone to stalking behavior to catch their prey.

The best toy we bought him is a DaBird and when he's into the mood to get feisty, we get out the DaBird and twirl it for him so he can burn off some energy.

The other thing that has reduced it is to use a squirt bottle and squirt him once when he attempts to nip. We have started that while he's a kitten, so he's nipping less. We also used the squirt technique when he was batting at the blinds. He thought the blinds "did it" and so far as not attempted to swat the blinds any longer.

Your kitty is older and you may be able to train him , but it could take longer. Ignore him when he's being aggressive, try the squirt technique and definitely get him a DaBird to chase. Wear socks if possible, don't wiggle your toes so much.

Cats can also get over-stimulated and when the tail starts flicking and the ears go back, it's time to put them down for a time-out.

Note: I also read somewhere if you put a little Vick's VapoRun around your ankles or toes, they will be turned off by the smell of it and bite less. :)

  48. QUESTION:
How can I (and other animal lovers as well) help remove the negative image surronding pit bulls?
I volenteer at a local animal humane society and Ive noticed how bad pit bulls are discriminated against. I personally think that the media reports ONLY on the pit bulls just for a quick scare story and that S### heads like mike vick push it forward. Any one who has ever owned or been around pit bulls know that.

    • ANSWER:
      1. Control the media. Have them report stories evenhandedly. If a pair of Labradors attack a child, they must report it with as many scary words and warnings as they do any dog attack.
      2. Require that anyone with a felony record , anyone who knows a person with a felony record, or anyone who lives within 50 feet of someone with a felony record, must not own/ spend time with/ have on the premises any dog that has any resemblance to a bully breed.
      3. Have every state increase their mandatory minimum sentencing of anyone connected to a dog fight, even the guys selling popcorn in the parking lot, to two years in prison. Anyone with a fighting dog or fighting paraphernalia on their premises will have a mandatory minimum of five years in prison.

      That would be a start.

  49. QUESTION:
Any tips for easing toddlers cough at night?
My 17 month old toddler is on antibiotics for tonsillitis. Last night she started to cough quite a lot and it sounded like she had trouble breathing. I've rubbed her chest and back with baby Vicks and have raised the head end of her cot but that's not really helping. She's to go back to the doctor on Wednesday but it sounds like the cough is on her chest now. Any ideas what might help her sleep easier?

    • ANSWER:
this worked and continues to work for my son. its unusual, but try rubbing the vicks on the bottom of her feet, and then putting socks on, i swear this works, its an old wives tale that has some truth in it. some of those wives knew what they were talking about. also you can make a home-made vaporizer using vicks. boil a pot of water with a lid on it. then take it off the burner and take it to her room as quickly as possible, with the lid still on it. as soon as you take the lid off, put a big dollop of vicks in it, and it will steam up the room and get the actual vapors going thru the air. this works wonders. just make sure its not near enuff to the crib where she could possibly reach the pot, of course. a lot cheaper and quicker than a store bought vaporizer, i assure you. this should bring her some relief until she gets to the doctor. hope she feels better!

  50. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:
use a spray/cream/powder for either athletes foot or jock itch. the three are all the caused by the same(or very similar) fungus. you can also take anti fungals. ask a dermatologist

vicks on feet
